The Govt. College of Nursing at Bankura Sammilani Medical College was established in the year 2009 for B.Sc. Nursing course with an annual intake of fifty students. The institution offers four years B.Sc, Nursing Course with its academic control by WBUHS and administrative control by Health & Family Welfare Department Government of West Bengal. The Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing two years course with an annual intake of fifty and M.Sc. Nursing courses of three specialty vig. Child Health Nursing, Obstetric & Gynaecological Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing with an annual intake of five in each specialty was started in this institution from 2016. All courses are affiliated with Indian Nursing Council as well as West Bengal Nursing Council.
Objectives of the Courses
On completion of the courses the graduates and postgraduates will be able to:- Apply knowledge from physical, biological and behavioural sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing care to individual, families, and communities.
- Provide nursing care and health education based on the steps of the nursing process in collaboration with the individual and groups.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skill in making a decision in all situations in order to provide quality care.
- Utilize the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
- Communicate effectively with individuals and groups, members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationship and teamwork.
- Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills in clinical and community health setting.
- Conduct need-based research studies in various setting and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.
- Participate effectively as a member of the health team in the health care delivery system.
Courses and Admission
UG Programmes:- Basic B. Sc. Nursing (Degree Course): Duration 4 years with 50 annual intake.
- Post Basic B. Sc. Nursing (Degree Course): Duration 2 years with 50 annual intake.
- M. Sc. Nursing with Child health Nursing, Obstetric & Gynaecological Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing Speciality: Duration 2 Years with 15 annual intake.
Admission:
Method of Admission:- Basic B. Sc. Nursing candidates are selected from the result of Joint Entrance Examination (JENPAUH).
- Post Basic B. Sc. Nursing and M. Sc. Nursing candidates are selected from the result of Entrance Examinations conducted by the West Bengal University of Health Sciences.
Selection Process:
- Basic B. Sc. Nursing:
- The candidates must qualify in Joint Entrance Examination (JENPAUH).
- Age of the Candidate must be 17 years on 31 December of the year of admission.
- The minimum educational requirement shall be 10+2 or Higher Secondary Examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology & English with 45% marks for unreserved candidate and 40 % marks for reserved candidates.
- Leading newspapers are consulted for advertisement, examination and for counselling.
- Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing:
- Educational Qualification: Higher Secondary or its equivalent examination passed.
- Professional Qualification: Registered General Nurse Midwives with minimum 3 years of experience

- M.Sc Nursing:
- Registered B. Sc. Nursing, B. Sc. (H) Nursing, and Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with a minimum of 55% of marks in aggregate.
